On London’s north eastern edge, Waltham Forest combines vast green spaces like Epping Forest with the creative energy of Walthamstow.

It’s home to four museums, mostly centred around the town centre of Walthamstow. The main draw is the William Morris Gallery, home to the world’s largest collection of Morris’ work. Nearby Vestry House – home to the local museum in a former workhouse – is set to reopen in 2026 after refurbishment.

The borough is home to two more small but mighty museums, reflecting two sides of Waltham Forest’s history. Walthamstow Pumphouse Museum celebrates the area’s transport and industrial history – a key part of the borough’s development, because of the Lea Valley.

Further north, on the edge of Epping Forest you’ll find Queen Elizabeth’s Hunting Lodge, a Tudor building with a small museum.
