I love Wandsworth. Much of it peaceful and leafy, it’s also home to some of South London’s coolest neighbourhoods – especially Tooting.
But its museum offering is very small. Since Wandsworth Museum closed in 2016, there’s been no permanent local museum.
Outside of that, there are two museums, both small and niche: the Antique Breadboard Museum and the Sewing Machine Museum.
If neither of these grab your fancy, your best of exploring the larger museum collections in neighbouring boroughs like Merton or Lambeth, or looking at the many excellent museums across South London.

Museums near Wandsworth
Although Wandsworth’s own museum scene is limited, it’s surrounded by museum-rich boroughs. Just east in Lambeth you’ll find the Imperial War Museum and Garden Museum. And to the southwest in Richmond upon Thames are world-class attractions like Hampton Court Palace. Kew Gardens and plenty more besides. Wandsworth is also close to the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum, as well as Merton’s local museums, such as the Museum of Wimbledon.
