What it is

Museum tags: Religion; History; Architecture; Hidden gem

One of London’s most beautiful buildings, tucked away in Brent. When it was built, it was the largest Hindu temple outside of India, built entirely using traditional methods. It’s extremely intricate and stunning inside, free to visit with people of all faiths welcome. But this is an active religious site so be respectful, and photos aren’t permitted. There is a small museum about Hinduism called ‘Understanding Hinduism’

Well worth the trek from anywhere in London. In all my years living in London, this remains probably the biggest surprise – partly just because so few people even know it exists. It’s genuinely among the city’s most beautiful buildings. The exhibition on Hinduism is interesting. It’s a functioning temple, so make sure you check the website to see when you can visit, and visit respectfully.
