An art gallery home to the City of London’s art collection, especially notable for its Victorian pieces – though the collection ranges from the 17th century to the modern day. Downstairs are the excavated remains of part of London’s Roman Ampitheatre, lost for centuries and discovered when the gallery was built in the 1980s.

My personal take on
A museum of two halves. The Guildhall Art Gallery is impressive and extensive, focused mostly on Victorian art – and while it’s not for me, if you have interest in more classical art, it’s well worth a visit.

The two rooms dedicated to modern art of London are excellent, and I’ve discovered many gems there.

The other half of the museum is pretty different – the Roman Amphitheatre. I’ll be honest, there’s not loads left to see, even with creative installations and lighting. But it’s nonetheless interesting and evocative, and gives a sense of Roman London.
