My personal take on Merton Priory Chapter House
I used to live just along from Merton Priory, and I had no idea it was there. I found it when (I kid you not) I was walking to the Sainsbury’s to do my weekly shop.

It’s very small, so I wouldn’t recommend making a special trip to visit, unless of course you’re especially fascinated by archaeology, medieval monasteries or the Reformation. But if you’re in the area, it’s a truly interesting example of how heritage is being kept alive by communities, and one of outer London’s surprise historic gems.

You could also combine it with a trip to nearby Merton Abbey Mills, itself a historic mill now home to a lovely collection of shops, restaurants and a nice pub along the Wandle.
