My personal take on National Gallery
London’s showcase art gallery, taking pride of place on Trafalgar Square, the National Gallery is on many people’s ‘must-see’ lists when they visit London. And with good reason. In few other galleries across the world can you see such a range of masterpieces from throughout history – all for free.

The gallery houses more than 2,000 paintings dating from the mid-13th century up until 1900 and there’s few places on earth to see such an impressive of roll call of history’s most famous artists: da Vinci, Michelangelo, Van Gogh and Monet are all here.

A lot of the space is taken up with old religious works and renaissance paintings. This isn’t particularly my thing – but the collection is certainly impressive. For me (and many others) the highlight is the impressionist and post-impressionist rooms, filled with some of the most beautiful paintings you’ll see anywhere.
