What it is

Museum tags: Natural history, botany & gardens; Archaeology; Zoology; Geology; Dinosaurs; Architecture

One of the world’s top museums in an utterly stunning Victorian building envisaged as a ‘Cathedral to Nature’. Home to a vast collection of natural history. Highlights include the ever-popular dinosaurs, its central hall with the skeleton of a blue whale, the glittering gem gallery, and rooms with just about every animal you can imagine, big and small. Now also has a Wildlife Garden. For a large part of the year it hosts the excellent Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition, well worth a visit.

My personal take on Natural History Museum
I always make a point to visit the Wildlife Photographer of the Year, one of London’s must-see annual exhibitions (usually opening in October). Outside of that, the museum itself is perfect for families – especially the dinosaur exhibition.
It’s free to visit, but my advice is to book a free slot in advance. Especially during the summer, the queues can be very, very long.
The other thing I love about the Natural History Museum is the beautiful, unique building, designed as a Cathedral to nature, entirely using terracotta decorations. It’s incredibly intricate, and I notice something new every time I go back.
