A world-famous museum of science and innovation, spread across seven floors of interactive exhibits. Very hands-on and great for kids, with a reputation for making science fun and accessible.
Begin in the huge ‘Making the Modern World’ hall, which takes you through 250 years of innovation, showcasing objects that have shaped our society, such as peniccilin from Fleming’s laboratory, Watson’s DNA model and the first Apple Computer.
Other highlights include the space gallery, the interactive Wonderlab, Power Up (a hands-on gaming experience), and an IMAX cinema. Great for those with specialist interests too: there are dedicated rooms on everything from medical history and mathematics to aviation and the world’s oldest collection of clocks and watches.
The exhibition is still there, and still interactive. It’s also still fun, but starting to feel a little dated.
Luckily, there are newer, more cutting edge galleries (including Power Up and Wonderlab).
Overall, it’s a great museum to visit if you have kids. There’s also always more to discover. On my last visit, for example, I discovered the delights of the Mathematics Gallery, slightly tucked away and designed by Zaha Hadid.
