What it is

Museum tags: History; Ancient history; London history; Roman London; Archaeology; Archaeological site

A small, free gallery showcasing a piece of London’s Roman Wall and Bastion. As well as the wall, there’s an exhibition of archaeological remains from the site, shining a light on how Londoners lived alongside the wall for centuries.

My personal take on The City Wall at Vine Street
Well worth a visit if you’re nearby. The Wall itself is, of course, wonderful – though there are better stretches of the Roman Wall to see elsewhere, such as at the Barbican.

The real highlight are the archaeological remains exhibited. For centuries, Londoners lived right up against the Roman Wall, and used its ditches as a rubbish bin.

In a few small exhibition cases, this small gallery shines a light on how different generations of Londoners lived. An unexpected delight.
