Don’t underestimate Hounslow – this West London borough’s eight museums rival the entire offering of many UK cities.
You’ll find stunning historic buildings like Syon House with its breathtaking interiors, and the Georgian Chiswick House & Gardens.
For more traditional museums, there’s the vast Gunnersbury Park Museum covering local history, and genuinely unique collections at the Musical Museum (self-playing instruments) and the hands-on London Museum of Water & Steam. It’s quietly one of London’s best boroughs for museum lovers.

Museums near Hounslow
Just across the Thames from Hounslow you’ll find Kew Gardens, a huge complex home to over 50,000 plants, several galleries and beautiful Victorian glasshouses. It’s one of my favourite spots in London.
Other highlights close to Hounslow include Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery – the former home of Sir John Soane, which also has a contemporary art gallery – and the World Rugby Museum in Richmond.
