There’s nowhere quite like Italy. From its ancient history to its food (the best in Europe, without a doubt), elegant piazzas to some of the continent’s most dramatic scenery.

What I love most about Italy is its contrasts. The complicated 20th-century story and sometimes gritty present sit side-by-side with the majesty of the Renaissance and the ghosts of its ancient past—often all on the same street, or even in the same building.
