The 19th-century home of Charles Dickens, arguably London’s most iconic writer, who wrote about the experience of Britain’s working class in the 19th century. In this building on Doughty Street, Dickens wrote some of his most famous works, including Nicholas Nickelby and Oliver Twist. The house showcases a large collection of artefacts linked to Dickens and his work, and is also set up as it was when he lived here, giving an insight into his life and that of 19th century Londoners.
